Hi,

I am Khiem Lai. I hope we can provide you the services that you may want for your needs of medical or surgical aesthetics. If you are eating right, resting and sleeping enough, and exercising regularly, you already keep yourself healthy and young, you may not need me; only when you want to improve your look a bit, I may help. It has taken me over a decade of intensive learning and doing it; no promise of perfection, but I will do my best.

You know, I believe all the knowledge that we have is useless and sometimes dangerous if you don't apply it, use it to improve human condition and promote well-being for us all.

Dr. Lai's Bio

Dr. Lai has formal education and trainings in both aesthetic medicine and aesthetic plastic surgery in addition to countless number of postgraduate medical training courses and workshops on aesthetic surgery of the face, breast surgery, and body contouring surgery in the US and abroad. He has ultimately mastered them both. Still he is so thankful to all the patients, whom he has learned and continues to learn the most from. Though he is not a US residency -trained plastic surgeon per se, he has comprehensive education and extensive trainings with essential skills in dermatologic, plastic and reconstructive surgery, applying to his aesthetic work. He has also learned to use knowledge of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine to enhance the results for his facial rejuvenation procedures.

He is now committed to aesthetic surgery as a clinician and performer and never stops learning to improve his craftmanship. He enjoys playing guitar and electronic music, and drawing and folding paper, and is learning more about Arts and Crafts. He is also interested in cognitive neuroscience and linguistics. He always wants to learn another language. He is multilingual and fluent in a couple languages. He has been in many places; still Orange County is where he calls home and lives happily here.

Being borned and raised in Saigon, South Vietnam, Dr. Lai had completed four years of studies at the Institute of Financing and Accounting before he escaped  from the communist regime as a boat person. He ended up in West Germany and took the opportunity to learn German for two years while waiting to reunify with his family in Southern California and helping his countrymen who settled there interact with social workers and local people. With a passion for learning, he enrolled at Community Colleges soon after he arrived in America. He started studying Math and Science, aiming for a degree in Electrical Engineering, which he thought would challenge and secure him a job with stable income. But he then felt the calling to become a healer and pursued a vocation in medicine. To be better prepared for medical school he changed his major to Chemistry and Biochemistry while studying at California State University Long Beach, though he also wanted to spend his time there studying applied mathematics and  learning more about a computer language. After obtaining his BS in Biochemistry, he worked as an analytical chemist at a pharmaceutical company for a year as he had some experience doing summer research in organic chemistry at the Beach before going to medical school. After getting his MD from Ross University School of Medicine, he came back to Cal State Long Beach and enrolled in the Master of Science Program in Healthcare Administration, studying there a couple semesters before he went on to complete his residency in Family Practice at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Las Vegas. 

He then came back to Orange County to practice family medicine and became interested in aesthetic medicine when it had just started to get attention. He also wanted to study Public Heath and got admitted to an MPH program at A.T.  Still University but he couldn't find time to study it. He began doing lasers and injections for facial rejuvenation and soon realized there was still so much he could do if  he could remove the redundant skin and sculpt the soft tissue under the skin. To understand the skin better and to safely do an incision, he enrolled in the Post-graduate Diploma Program in Clinical Dermatology at Queen Mary University of London School of Medicine and Dentistry and went to Australia to learn practical skills in skin cancer surgery, reconstructing the face with skin grafts and local flaps. He went on to complete his Master’s degree in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery at the Instituto de Estudios Superiores en Medicina, which was one of the first and only program in Aesthetic Surgery at that time.
